Based on your understanding of the various other uses in your body for Carbohydrates, Proteins, and Lipids, which of these three would likely be used first to provide energy at the time of famine when no food is available from the environment? Why?

Carbs are used first, as they are the “fuel” used by muscles that is, they are in the form ready to burn. Carbs are stored as fats (lipids) if you have an abundance of carbs. so Lipids would be broken down to carbohydrates, then used as energy. one of the main reasons our bodies store lipids is for an energy reserve in times of famine.

Lastly, Proteins would be broken down into carbohydrates. this is the last stage of starvation, where your body is actually destroying your own muscle tissue to sustain itself. from an evolutionary standpoint, if you broke down proteins before lipids, then lipid storage would be pointless, as there would be no muscles to use the energy stored as fat.

is it right to use a whey protein with a fat burner supplement ?

I recently bought a fat burner called Hydroxycut Hardcore from Muscletech and a PVL 100% Whey Maxx .Though they are two different types of supplements, I’m wondering if it’s ok to take them at the same time. I want to burn body fat quickly and gain muscle, so I thought I’d purchase both of these products. Thank you!

You’ve got the right idea, and you’ve chosen 2 excellent products. The way they work kind of cancels each other out so you need to be careful about when you take them.

Whey protein floods your body pre and post workout with amino acids, that your body then turns into new muscle to repair the damage you do lifting weights. This, though, takes energy.

Fat burners generally increase your metabolism and so you burn off lots of extra energy even though you’re not training.

So, one needs energy to build muscle, the other burns energy off. How to get round it. Take your protein immeditely before and immediately after training. On non- weight training days take the fat burner first thing in the morning, so it burns off energy all day, then take a protein shake before bed, to start fuelling your muscles for the next day.

The human body uses a lot of protein in its construction and function. Therefore, you should eat massive quantities to be even healthier. Right or wrong? what could be some of the complications of a high protein diet?

High-Protein Diets

AHA Recommendation
The American Heart Association doesn’t recommend high-protein diets for weight loss. Some of these diets restrict healthful foods that provide essential nutrients and don’t provide the variety of foods needed to adequately meet nutritional needs. People who stay on these diets very long may not get enough vitamins and minerals and face other potential health risks.

Background

Many Americans follow popular diets, such as the Atkins, Zone, Protein Power, Sugar Busters and Stillman diets. Most of these diets aren’t balanced in terms of the essential nutrients our bodies need. Some are high protein and emphasize foods like meat, eggs and cheese, which are rich in protein and saturated fat. Some restrict important carbohydrates such as cereals, grains, fruits, vegetables and low-fat dairy products. If followed for a long time, they can result in potential health problems. And while they may result in quick weight loss, more research is needed on their effectiveness for long-term weight loss.

These diets can cause a quick drop in weight because eliminating carbohydrates causes a loss of body fluids. Lowering carbohydrate intake also prevents the body from completely burning fat. In the diets that are also high in protein, substances called ketones are formed and released into the bloodstream, a condition called ketosis. It makes dieting easier because it lowers appetite and may cause nausea.

But these diets have other effects besides inducing quick weight loss. Most Americans already eat more protein than their bodies need. And eating too much protein can increase health risks. High-protein animal foods are usually also high in saturated fat. Eating large amounts of high-fat foods for a sustained period raises the risk of coronary heart disease, diabetes, stroke and several types of cancer. People who can’t use excess protein effectively may be at higher risk of kidney and liver disorders, and osteoporosis.

That’s why the American Heart Association guidelines urge adults who are trying to lose weight and keep it off to eat no more than 35 percent of total daily calories from fat and less than 7 percent of total daily calories from saturated fat and less than 1 percent of total daily calories from trans fat. On most high-protein diets, meeting these goals isn’t possible.

Some high-protein diets de-emphasize high-carbohydrate, high-fiber plant foods. These foods help lower cholesterol when eaten as part of a nutritionally balanced diet. Reducing consumption of these foods usually means other, higher-fat foods are eaten instead. This raises cholesterol levels even more and increases cardiovascular risk.

High-protein diets don’t provide some essential vitamins, minerals, fiber and other nutritional elements. A high-carbohydrate diet that includes fruits, vegetables, nonfat dairy products and whole grains also has been shown to reduce blood pressure. Thus, limiting these foods may raise blood pressure by reducing the intake of calcium, potassium and magnesium while simultaneously increasing sodium intake.

A healthy diet that includes a variety of foods and is rich in fresh fruits and vegetables along with regular physical activity can help most people manage and maintain weight loss for both cardiovascular health and appearance. Should I do a fat loss workout alongside a strength/bodybuilding workout? Any Idea?

I am 15 and am overweight and I want to lose fat and build muscle. So is it ok to do a fat loss workout alongside a strength/bodybuilding workout? Or maybe any other idea/tips?

Low Fat Foods don’t work
You cannot lose weight using Low Fat Diets. Low fat foods have been popular for more than 15 years, but yet our society is getting more overweight as each year passes. This fact alone should tell you that eating a purely low fat menu is not the answer to losing weight.

Low Calorie Diets don’t work
You won’t lose weight using a Low Calorie Dieting Plan either. In fact, eating low calories is the worst thing that you can do to your body, since that will only slow down your body’s fat burning engine and ruin all chances of losing weight (low calorie diets may allow a few pounds of weight loss for the first few days, but then after that all weight loss comes to a halt — known as a dieting plateau). You can never get slim by starving yourself.

Low Carb Plans don’t work
You’ll probably find it extremely difficult to get slim using a Low Carb Dieting Plan. Low carb diets have recently become popular over the last couple years, but the problem with low carb menus is that they are too strict and TOO HARD TO FOLLOW for average people. Low carb menus tend to rob your body of too much energy (carbohydrates) and make it nearly impossible to remain on the program for very long. This is why so many dieters find it difficult to follow a strict low carbohydrate menu.
